A scene from Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus, episode 9

"That scene where Sakuta was talking to Miori (The whole “ she fell in love with the idea of someone falling in love with her“ or something like that) was interesting. However, the part where she described Himeji’s previous teacher, as well as the one before him as perverted really bothered me, and here’s why. One, we don’t even know what exactly they did, so it’s simply just hearsay. (unless it’s described in the light novels, and if so, by all means, let me know. I didn’t get that far in the light novels) And two, that mentality is very similar to the decency squad's in Shimoneta.

And in particular, it reminds me of the part of the series where that representative from the decency squad was sent to the main school for “lewdness eradication“. But it got so ridiculous that he was eliminating things such as basketball nets because it’s “constructed in a way that resembles contraceptive rubbers“, as well as eliminating a rope used for tug-of-war because it can “induce acts of unhealthy perversion from (people)“. I’m sure you know what I’m getting at, both are examples of a very unhealthy mentality with that kind of stuff. And sure, the latter is definitely more extreme than the former, but you get my point.

It’s just a very unhealthy mentality towards things that aren’t even perverted. Or if they are, only mildly so."

My thoughts on episode 3 of Bakemonogatari

"I just saw episode three of Bakemonogatari, and I was quite confused as well as disappointed with quite a bit of what I saw. I was impressed with the first two episodes, and I really did see the similarities between this and Rascal does not dream, as several people on here (Anilist) pointed out in the Rascal does not dream episode discuss discussion threads. But this episode really was offputting!

First of all, since Senjougahara was cured of her weight issue, at the end of that episode, she was much more nice and cordial to Araragi, and even said “… And I apologize for everything I put you through.“ So how come in this episode, she went straight back to being mean and insulting to him? That doesn’t make any sense.

And second of all, what the hell is wrong with Araragi beating up on that elementary school student, literally?

First of all, he didn’t take the initial hint when she flat out told him that she hated him. I mean, I don’t know why she said that to him, considering that it seems like that these two have never met before, unless there’s some backstory I don’t know about. I didn’t read the light novels so maybe it’s explained there. But anyways, after that, he said he would try again. At that point I was like, why the hell even bother? I mean, I know that she said afterwards that she really was lost, and I know that this is a really weird series, but that seemed to have really crossed the line, even by really weird standards!

No, I’m not usually very uptight about series in general, Kami-sama knows that we have too many of those kind of people! But those couple things just were entirely too over-the-top! No, I’m not gonna drop this, at least because of how well it was recommended by people who liked Rascal does not dream, as I stated before. But hopefully it doesn’t contain any more scenes like that, otherwise I just may very well drop this! Hopefully it does not come to that, because I see a bunch of other stuff with this series that I really do like as well!"

Why I dropped the Roshidere light novels

"OK, I posted these photos from the Roshdere LN’s that I was reading to illustrate a point. Now at this point, there were already several other times where it got totally ridiculous, as well as ultra toxic like this. Before a while, when I was saying to myself “one more incident like that, and I’m dropping the book series“, it really laid off. So I figured that the author would stop including moments like this.

Unfortunately, I was wrong as this was in chapter 6 of the fourth light novel, in addition to their being a couple mild to moderate things like this earlier in the volume. And this was the straw that broke the camel’s back to get me to be like “that’s it! I’ve had enough of this.“ So now I’m dropping the light novel series. it’s a shame, because I really enjoyed the anime and a lot of of the parts of the light novel series were enjoyable, otherwise I wouldn’t have gotten this far in the first place.

When it gets to be THIS toxic, especially when it comes back around after not being so for a while, which makes you think that the author actually learned his lesson, you just have to get out of dodge. Life nowadays is already too stressful as it is, without sticking around putting up with this sort of garbage when you don’t have to.

And also another thing which makes me criticize the author for this, was his attitude during the afterwards in the light novels. He was writing in the afterwards themselves, something on the lines of that he knew that no one even bothers reading these things, and was implying that there shouldn’t be afterwards because of that. Well, first of all, he was putting words in my mouth, because I did, and I’m sure a lot of you guys do too. So not only that, I thought that it was extremely unprofessional, and combined with these sorts of scenes in the novels themselves, that unfortunately tells you just what you need to know about his character.

So yeah, I’m dropping it."

What the hell is up with Saki? (from Genshiken)

"Seriously, I was considering posting about this after I completed episode four. Because at that point, she was just down talking everybody, even including that new girl (Kanako) when she went to Kanoko’s apartment. Because as we saw, after being explicitly told to wait outside, she chose not to, even when the guy that was waiting with her also told her not to go in. And not only that, but she actually had the nerve to laugh and make fun of the posters that Kanoko had up, just because they had bald men with sunglasses on them. and this was after Kanoko expressed fears to her about being made fun of, yet she still did anyway! Seriously, does this woman have no tact whatsoever?

But what put me over the top was the early part of episode five, when Saki was openly taking delight out of the club being shut down. And that one guy made a good point about the fact that she comes all the time, even though that she’s not even a member, despite her not liking the club. And he also made a good point to say, even if the club gets shut down, that her “otaku” problems won’t be resolved (vis-a-vis her boyfriend being one). And yet, she reacted to that by slamming her hand on the table, and the guy reacted by saying that he didn’t say anything. Why he did that, I don’t know, but I can tell you I certainly wouldn’t of done that!

I mean, seriously, this Saki woman is turning out to be just one big bully! Because it’s not even just not liking anime or anything like that, but anything she finds unusual! She has to ridicule, and like I said, doesn’t even respect other people’s wishes, when they tell her to stay in a particular area, for example. And also that whole broom hitting thing, at the end of episode four? I mean, seriously? She doesn’t seem to have anything in the way of self control at all, in addition to being completely tactless!"

Not even children’s fairytales are sacred anymore!

“I was watching episode 20 of Blue Box today, and Overall, the episode was pretty good. However, in the episode, they had the main class performing Snow White, and they made a couple of changes that were so ridiculous. I just couldn’t ignore. I actually posted about this on the episode, thread, and here is what I said about those changes:

“…However, people who certainly don’t deserve a lot of credit at all were the people responsible for changing those scenes and those lines during the play! In fact, they deserve a lot of scorn and reprimanding for messing with a classic fairytale like that! I know it’s Japan, and it’s a western fairytale, but come on! These people are entirely missing the point of these sorts of stories! It’s not supposed to be 100% realistic, considering it’s a children’sfairytale! And I’m not just talking about this one little play, but this sort of stuff has been going on way too often in recent years, and quite frankly, I am sick and freaking tired of it! Especially when it’s put on display here, in anime, which is supposed to be escape from all this bullshit! And especially because of the fact that nobody got hurt, I’m actually glad that that confetti ball crash landed during the play, considering how much it was butchered with all the changes and everything! Sure it was like two or three scenes, but those were key scenes that were changed, and had stuff added to them, and it totally changed the mood of the story! I mean, it was ridiculous!

At least there was that girl with the purple hair (Ayame) talking with those two other girls (who I’m not sure if they were the ones that made the changes or whatnot) who was really being the voice of reason regarding all this. And also made another good point when she was saying that she isn’t too casual, those girls are just too serious! I mean, if you feel like you need to add a scene to a children’s fairytale just because the original version of it makes you feel uncomfortable, you really are too serious! Period!”

I mean seriously? Even children’s fairytales are being changed like this? And the fact that it was Japanese characters doing the changes for a Japanese audience, I’m concerned about even more! Because it’s not supposed to be like that over there!

And it is ridiculous, the changes that were made, just to make the kiss scene in Snow White Have more “depth“ to it. Because apparently, some girls felt quite bothered by the fact that some guy they “barely even know” would be kissing them, which is, of course, iconic to Snow White! Really? Come on, like I said, this is a children’s fairytale! That’s supposed to be a romantic scene, because the prince kissing her in order to wake her up, like an “aww“ moment, and these people were bothered by that? Give me a break!

Well, like I said, in the post, at least one of the girls didn’t see it that way! Ayame, again, was the voice of reason in all of this. I’m just sick and tired of all these ridiculous changes need to be made with all kinds of media, and thank the kami for people like Ayame! And also for Taiki himself, getting over the nervousness and improving on his performance, at least as much as the script would allow, over the course of the play. And a potential rival to the main two romantic interests of Taiki, being Ayame herself! That would be interesting!

So like I said, there were definitely some good things in this episode, there was just a huge damper put on them, because of all these ridiculous changes to the play in the episode!”
